Please see photo below for homework update as of today. The picture session went well yesterday. Proofs will be ready for you to see tomorrow. We'll send out an email when available. A reminder that there is no school Friday or Monday. YIKES!
Rebecca has taken over teaching the Hawks Reading Workshop this week. Jordan will remain teaching the Writing Workshop. This is to free up Jordan and Erin to work together to work individually with students using our new Reading Horizons program.
Please check out the event again on May 29th - details listed below. I think coming together for some inspiration and community conversations surround this topic is so important. Tickets are $10. We'd love to see you there!

Riverview High School Visiting Day
All students attending RHS will be accompanied by Jordan to take part in a tour and orientation activities.
2 students will be leaving to transition from the Hawks back to public school, Sara and Ryan. 2 new students have enrolled. The max number of students accepted for the Hawks will be 10. Heather will be the lead teacher, Erin will be the EA in class full time. Rebecca (and baby) will be there to oversee daily operations with the school and students. All students who are transitioning will be receiving their PLP's ( Personalized Learning Plans) and those will be forwarded to the school ASAP. They also will bring any useful reference guides in a binder that they've been using during their time here. They will have a one page "need to know about me" page that will be in their binder and sent to the school. Lastly, they will have their advocacy letters that will go to the teachers, so teachers understand the strategies and supports that work best for them. I will create a shared google folder for each student so they can ( and you as their parents) can access all these documents from the cloud if they loose them. Please reach out to me if you don't know how to use google docs or google drive and I'll tell you what to do (it's really simple).
Please pay for any portion of the $370 for the trip that you are able to ASAP. I put in the email yesterday, final payment date was May 12th, but I originally said May 19th. So we'll stick with the May 19th date. You just need to scroll through the document below to see all details.
Please see the video and photos below. There are 30 teaching/learning days left until the end of the year. We want to fill them with authentic and meaningful learning experiences to help our kids GROW!
Note: We have a visitor tomorrow who is in grade 3 who would like to attend day school next year ( grade 4). We want all students to make him feel welcomed and safe, which we know they will! His name is Spencer.
Reminder: ALL students attending the end of year GRAD trip need to send in written confirmation to Rebecca by tonight please.
We didn't post a reminder to kids about Easter Fun Dress Up day - it was marked on the calendar - but no reminder was given. SO....because we are Riverbend, Tuesday will be EASTER FUN DO-OVER DAY!!
That means dress up, bunny ears, whatever seems Easter-y and fun! Photo Ops.
Below is the homework photo for today. As always, the kids are responsible for photos each day and keeping on top of their assignments. Thanks for your understanding with the report card extension. We hope everyone feels they have a good sense of exactly where their kids are at and where we are heading with them next term.
Posted below is an instruction video on how to work on fluency at home. Their passages were sent home today and will be due each Tuesday going forward.
We have now officially started term 3 and are diving head first in. The reports discuss what is coming up this term, but if you'd like to know more just ask!
We look forward to seeing you at parent-teacher conferences on Friday. The front door will be open so just come up and wait in the locker area and we will come and get you when it's time.

Message Home Before March Break
Hello Riverbend Families,
We want to reach out just before March Break begins. The kids have worked VERY hard this week and we are proud of their accomplishments. The Hawks finished up their class novel " The Graveyard Book," and we heard there wasn't a dry eye in the class, even Jordan was getting choked up. The Owls have finished working for hours each day in school and at home for 5 weeks on their Argument Essay. These final essays would probably put some high school kids to SHAME! Go Owls.
Heather has sent home a small math package for the Hawks that they can work on to keeping their skills sharp. We know March Break is a time to recharge and rest. However many students requested extra work, so Heather wanted to extend the work to all keen learners! These aren't long assignments, so Hawks do what you can to keep your Math brains active. Owls can always work on IXL modules in Math for a little practice.
ELA Challenge Over the Break
Any students who choose to can select a book of interest. A goal of reading 20 minutes per day is a great start. Challenge yourself to stop and ask those questions we've been practicing all year. Use the stop and jot bookmark posted below to guide your thinking during your reading.
Keep a journal! Write the date at the top of the page each day and write down your thoughts and exciting things that are happening.
Meeting With Cathy Rogers Over March Break
We are encouraged and happy to be having a meeting with Cathy Rogers over the March Break. We will be discussing tuition transfer again and hopefully making progress for Riverbend and it's families!
HAPPY MARCH BREAK!
* if you want to know the academics coming up after March Break, just email us for a full break down.
Here is today's homework. Please note tomorrow fluency and speed drills with be coming home again in folders. If you need help or advice on how to track the speed drills or fluency pieces again, please email us. In ELA we are focusing a lot on writing and keeping our reading tasks for in class. Have a great week and as usual, we will update here as often as possible, but it is up to the students to take a photo each day.
Below you will find today's updated homework. Please note that after 4 or 5 missed days of school - we often will post new assignments or learning challenges to Edmodo on a snow day. This allows us to continue learning on snow days. Please know that unless you are without power, we expect students to check Edmodo for small challenges.
PLEASE SEE TUESDAY's POST BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T READ IT YET!
